Isolation
Made through the long quiet of 2020, Isolation steps away from the book entirely. Alone in the studio, Barer turned the camera toward the figure — a set of close, searching portraits of solitude itself.
Isolation is the quietest body of work here, and the only one without a book in it. Made in a studio Barer entered alone, day after day, while the world outside had gone still, these portraits trade her usual subject for the human face — solitude looked at directly, and held.
